Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Lewisville, TX, is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician!

A Blue Pearl Oncology Technician is someone who is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are essential. Preferably, candidates should have a minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients, supporting the clinician with patient care, and communicating with clients.

As

an Oncology Technician, you will:

Perform physical exams; accurately assess heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.

Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.

Perform phlebotomy.

Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.

Calculate basic medical math.

Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.

Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.

Safely dispense, reconstitute, and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.

Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.

Properly shave and wrap for IV catheter placement for chemotherapy infusion.

Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and actions to take if it occurs.

Administer oncology treatments and obtain thorough histories, including current medications, response to treatment, side effects, and treatment duration.

Discharge oncology patients, including providing basic client education on handling patients after chemotherapy, medication administration at home, and managing side effects.

Maintain a solid understanding of veterinary medical terms and abbreviations for effective communication with veterinary professionals.

Address client concerns appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization, and handle incoming calls efficiently.

Have knowledge of tumor types and diagnostic work-up protocols, including oncology-specific terminology per hospital protocol.

Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients classified as ASA I or II.

Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency as assigned by clinicians or supervisors.

Maintain hospital operations, including stocking and cleaning.
