Manufacturing Engineer – Lewisville, TX, US
Job DescriptionMentor a group of engineers whose responsibilities include:
- Evaluate concepts to determine a best approach to meet or exceed requirements of a design.
- Create detailed drawings of assemblies and components to allow for the manufacture or purchase of items that eliminate interpretation or question.
- Confirm product capabilities by defining load requirements and testing method.
- Develop products by studying designer’s intent and the client’s requirements and collaborate to determine the optimal solution.
- Ask questions (and document answers) that clarify unknowns and eliminates any assumptions.
- Make design/structural recommendations as to how to achieve a look or feel of a concept yet maintain structural integrity.
- Develop easy to assemble products using minimal hardware.
- Create easy to understand assembly instructions.
- Maintain and modify existing design/drawings as needed and document revisions.
- Be readily available to provide information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintain company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Follow established procedures.
- Forecast approximate time needed to complete tasks.
- Meet expected/committed timelines.
- Give updates (daily or as requested) to any project(s) status.
- Establish and maintain good relations with other team members (sales, design, estimating, and production). Support and motivate other team members.
- Management experience preferred.
- 5‑year minimum experience in a custom design/manufacturing environment (fast paced). Experience in store fixture and display industry preferred.
- Minimum 2‑year technical degree (4‑year in Mechanical Engineering preferred).
- Solid Works proficiency.
- Global shop – must learn ERP system.
- Familiarity with different materials (metals, wood, plastic) and specifying different types of hardware to help make recommendations.
- Design/value engineering skills (not all degreed engineers are good engineers).
- Enthusiastic, dependable, positive.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize and assign tasks to the engineering team.
- Be able to travel within and outside the US if needed.
- Observe trends in merchandising and translate them into possible future solutions.
- Attend and be a part of daily PDR meetings to ensure correct path being followed and potential problems identified.
- Attend and be a part of NPN meetings to ensure successful and profitable release of new items through production (domestic and import).
- Work closely with other departments (manufacturing, purchasing, design, etc.) to ensure buy in on approach.
- Ability to properly staff (hiring and firing) the engineering department to meet company and customer needs.
- Identify opportunities and provide solutions to streamline our processes.
- Develop a unified specification approach.
- Foster a collaborative environment with all functions (design, sales, production).
