About

The Position

Incumbent is responsible for ensuring quality product assembly, proper loading/unloading and the safe operation of a commercial vehicle (van, straight truck, etc.) to deliver customer orders across interstate lines. Accountable for ensuring compliance with safe driving regulations of various states and DOT requirements.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-trip safety inspection. Responsible for keeping track of maintenance schedules (oil changes, tires need replacing, etc.) and keeping truck clean. Report any problems to supervisor.
  • Separate orders that are staged on floor and load onto truck using proper loading techniques.
  • Operate 24-foot or larger straight truck and drive across state lines to make the deliveries on date and time specified. Ensure compliance with all DOT and driver policy requirements (completion of driver logbooks, medical certification, cell phone usage, etc.).
  • Unload the truck(s); take materials into the centers to the appropriate areas; assemble items and set up classrooms per the customers' or sales reps' instructions; dispose of empty cardboard. Supervise temporary staff at customer site when necessary. Responsible for contacting customer service with list of all items being returned prior to leaving site to get an RMA number. Responsible for unloading returned materials to campus at Warehouse C upon arrival and unloading of empty cardboard/garbage into dumpster.
  • Pick up orders from vendors or returned goods from customers and bring to Kaplan as scheduled.
  • Move trailers from warehouse to the other location on and off campus as needed.
  • Provide support in the Distribution Center. Duties could include making dump runs, helping with local deliveries, moving office furniture, assisting in shipping or receiving departments, etc.
  • Complete expense reports and turn-in to supervisor in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months warehouse and forklift experience required, one year experience preferred.
  • Two years minimum commercial driving experience (truck, van, car).
  • Valid driver's license with no more than two moving violations within the past three years required. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License a plus.
  • Light truck driving and/or trailer switching experience preferred.
  • Basic reading and writing skills, geographic knowledge, and ability to read a map and follow directions required.
  • Incumbent must be customer oriented, exhibit good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess good problem-solving skills.
  • Requires the ability to frequently lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Aptitude for light assembly of products required.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision and be willing to work extended hours and weekends.
  • Position requires extended time away from home of one to two weeks at a time.
  • Current DOT physical or ability to obtain required.
  • Must be able to operate 24-foot box or straight truck or larger (26,000 lbs. loaded / 16,500 empty).
