Position Summary:The Director of Materials is responsible for providing Alcom’s end‑to‑end materials, supply chain and inventory management functions across all four manufacturing sites. This role ensures material availability to support production schedules, strengthens logistics and warehouse operations, and establishes disciplined processes that reduce shortages, improve working capital, and support multi‑site operations. The Director of Materials is a key member of the Leadership Team and plays a critical role in executing Alcom’s growth, cost, and service strategies.
This position reports directly to the company Chief Operations Officer (COO).
- Develop and oversee enterprise-wide materials planning processes (MRP, reorder points, safety stock, lead‑time settings).
- Ensure uninterrupted material flow to all production lines - zero tolerance for assembly line shortages resulting in downtime.
- Own all inventory KPIs, including Days on Hand (DOH), Inventory Turns, Units ready to Ship, Total Inventory Value, Excess & Obsolete (E&O).
- Implement cycle counting discipline, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Optimize working capital while maintaining production output and parts service levels.
- Direct warehouse and receiving operations for all locations, including material staging and line‑side delivery.
- Standardize best practices for layout, Kanban, min/max, 5S, forklift safety, labeling, and MRP transaction accuracy.
- Ensure efficient inbound freight, dock operations, and inter‑plant material transfers.
- Partner with Logistics on outbound freight forecasting and carrier performance.
- Work closely with Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to align supply plans with build schedules.
- Collaborate with Engineering on BOM accuracy, new product introductions, and material substitutions.
- Support CI initiatives—waste reduction, flow improvement, lean inventory, and space utilization.
- Drive accurate MRP data, routings, BOMs, and inventory transactions across systems.
- Lead MRP digital transformation efforts in purchasing, inventory, warehouses, and supplier integration.
- Establish SOPs for materials processes across all plants.
- Build and mentor a high‑performing materials team including Site Materials Manager, Planners, Warehouse Supervisors, and Inventory Control specialists.
- Establish clear KPIs, accountability systems, and site‑level scorecards.
- Promote a culture of urgency, accuracy, and problem‑solving.
Required:
- 5+ years materials, supply chain, or procurement leadership experience in manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of MRP systems and related inventory control.
- Proven experience managing multi‑site materials or supply chain operations.
- Demonstrated ability to improve fill rates, reduce shortages, and manage inventory levels.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
