Job Summary

The CNA is an essential member of the patient care team who contributes to the well‑being and comfort of patients during their stay by providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of the registered nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Performs assigned treatments, procedures, and other related tasks according to facility policies/protocols and within the scope of the CNA position.
  • Assists with personal hygiene, toileting, ambulation, mobility, positioning, mealtime, oral care, and foley drains/ostomies as needed, utilizing adaptive equipment as indicated.
  • Actively participates in the established plan of care.
  • Responds promptly to call lights, provides transport, maintains a clean environment, and follows principles of infection control.
  • Accurately documents on graphic and flow sheets in computer charting: vital signs, weights, and ADL care provided.
  • Maintains confidentiality, privacy, and patient rights.
  • Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Ortho Dept – Will work with surgical patients who have had joint replacements and abide by the standards of care set forth by St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Float Pool CNA – Reports for assignment and proceeds to any department that the Director/Manager/Nursing Supervisor assigns without delay.
  • May be asked to float to other departments.
  • Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role.
  • Other duties consistent with this role.
Job Requirements Job Knowledge and Skills
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Responsible, supportive team player.
  • Ability to work well in high‑stress situations.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • State of Maine CNA Certification is required at the time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

OSHA standards Category I, exposure to blood/body fluids or tissue. Must be able to work in a high‑paced environment where multi‑tasking, prioritizing and sound decision‑making skills are required. Exposed to disease, illness, infections, strains, and physical injury. Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing up to 8+ hours, twisting, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.

Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, occasionally up to 50 lbs. Some stress is related to high level of responsibility for quality care. The ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English is required.

Compensation Range

$21.55 - $29.68

Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. At the time of an offer, determination of your offer will reflect your skills and experience as it relates to the position.
