Position Summary:

Elmet Technologies is actively seeking an experienced and dynamic, technical oriented individual to further develop the expertise and operations of its Quality Assurance department. This position is accountable for preparing inspection plans, use of and collecting data from specialized metrology tools (CMM’s, vision, laser, NDT), and regular reporting on process and product capabilities and improvements. The successful candidate will be able to communicate with all levels of the organization in addition to demonstrating a strong level commitment toward delivering consistent, timely results.

Job Duties /Responsibilities:
  • Learn basics of Elmet manufacturing processes to be able to provide analysis support for quality specifications and quality problems.
  • Support Elmet Quality metrics and improvement goals by prioritizing work that is relevant to these metrics and goals.
  • Learn and train inspectors on Inspection processes, methods and special metrology instruments and equipment (CMM, laser, vision systems, eddy current inspection, ultrasonics, etc).
  • Review inspection data and prepare reports for internal use and for customers (data from CMM, vision systems, etc)
  • Prepare First Article Inspection reports (FAI per AS 9102) to submit to customers
  • Learn key industry standards and specifications relevant to Elmet products and processes.
  • Work with process engineers and others to collect data to understand key process controls to maintain quality outputs.
  • Analyze data to determine process capability (Cp, Cpk, etc) (we have software that makes this pretty easy, but engineer needs to review for errors, non-normal distributions, etc)
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Evaluate current quality measurement and inspection methods and equipment/tools, and regularly investigate and propose improved methods and/or equipment/tools to improve measurement and inspection capabilities (quality, productivity).
  • Participate and/or lead improvement teams to complete improvement projects.
  • Provide information and support to customers, along with Sales/Customer Service, as required to maintain good customer relations.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, and take ownership of any corrective actions to address findings in quality assurance systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • BS Degree or equivalent related experience in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Due to Department of Defense contract work must meet ITAR hiring requirements (US citizen, permanent resident or refugee/asylee).
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferable.
  • Must be a self-starter able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Strong planning and time management skills.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on a “hands on” approach.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles and practices preferred.
  • Strong and persistent drive to deliver positive results.
  • Must be detail oriented.
Not required, but helpful for this position:
  • ASQ CQA or CQE certification
  • Metallurgical training courses (from ASM or others)
  • Metrology skills – gages, operation and/or programming of CMM, FARO, vision systems, etc.
  • NDT experience or knowledge – UT, PT, eddy current
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards
  • Experience preparing FAI reports per AS9102
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc)
  • Open to travel to audit suppliers, monitor new product trials (1 or 2 times per year max)
  • Sense of humor
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • Typical office demands.
  • Must be able to speak, hear and see.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Routinely communicates face-to-face, via telephone and by computer.
  • Must be able to walk a 1/4 mile without difficulty, bend, reach and lift 10 lbs to shoulder height.
  • Exposure to manufacturing conditions, which may include loud noise, variable temperatures, and dust.
