Substation Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical substation drawings including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, physical layouts, sections and elevations, and other related details and sketches
• Perform design calculations and analysis such as grounding system analysis, lightning protection, voltage drop, power system sizing (AC and DC), and other industry-standard calculations
• Work closely with designers and drafters to develop drawings of high quality both technically and aesthetically
• Develop technical equipment and construction specifications, work scopes, estimates, and recommendation reports as needed by the project
• Work closely with Engineers to develop foundation and structure drawings, including mounting patterns and equipment layouts

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• 2-5 years experience in electrical design involving power systems
• Must be proficient with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Windows

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Strong technical writing skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills both written and verbal
• Experience with Protection and Control design, including familiarity with one-line diagrams of several different station configurations
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, and other industry standards and their applicability to diverse types of substations
• Ability to use drafting software(s) preferred
• Ability and willingness to work occasional extra hours to support clients and deadlines, including weekends
• Must be self-motivated and poses good time management skills to complete tasks and projects with a moderate amount of supervision
