Position: Band 6/7 Paediatric nurses

Overview

The Children's ED has been recently relocated and comprises of a minors/majors area, a 3 bedded short stay facility, a modernised resuscitation area and a separate waiting area. We are expecting some estates redevelopment in the near future to improve these facilities. An opportunity now exists for Band 6/7 Paediatric nurses with extensive experience to extend their skills in a Children's ED environment working alongside a varied nursing workforce, Paediatric Emergency Consultants, ENP's and GP's in the newly established UTC.

The successful candidates would be working alongside four other paediatric band 7's, two of which are primarily responsible for the management of the nursing workforce and department. The successful candidate would manage their own team of staff for sickness, 1:1's, Appraisals and performance. The successful candidate would be working alongside a team of band 7's, all of whom have varying roles and responsibilities within the team to cover the whole seven day service.

5. Making equalities mainstream, The post holder has shared 24 hour responsibility for the Children's Accident and Emergency Department.

Responsibilities
  • Act as an expert clinical practitioner and role model within all areas of children's emergency nursing
  • The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards of care of the children and their family / carers.
  • This responsibility includes liaising with the multidisciplinary team and providing leadership to nursing colleagues.
  • The post holder is also expected to manage the deployment and supervision of staff, participate in the selection and performance review of nursing staff and teach both student and qualified nurses.
  • Take responsibility in managing and closing down clinical incidences for the department.
