The Registered Nurse II delivers competent, evidence‑based nursing care to adult medical‑surgical patients, including short‑stay observation patients and individuals recovering from orthopedic procedures or injuries. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent prioritization, and the ability to manage a diverse patient population in a fast‑paced environment. The RN II collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimal outcomes, serves as a patient advocate, and supports the professional growth of newer staff.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Practice
- Facilitates, implements, and evaluates individualized Plans of Care and patient outcomes.
- Performs comprehensive assessments and timely reassessments, analyzing and communicating patient information effectively.
- Demonstrates strong technical competence and appropriate clinical skills in providing safe, high‑quality care.
- Implements nursing interventions promptly and evaluates patient responses.
- Provides specialized orthopedic care, including neurovascular assessments, mobility support, pain management, and reinforcement of post‑operative precautions.
- Manages observation patients efficiently, focusing on rapid assessment, timely interventions, and discharge readiness.
Critical Thinking & Clinical Judgment
- Applies sound clinical judgment in rapidly changing situations.
- Prioritizes responsibilities based on urgency, patient needs, and available resources.
- Independently problem‑solves and multitasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
Safety & Quality
- Identifies patient safety risk factors and initiates appropriate interventions, including fall prevention, skin integrity protection, and safe restraint use.
- Adheres to medication safety policies and promptly addresses safety concerns.
- Completes required Safety Tracking Tools and participates in unit‑based quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Provider Communication
- Accurately and promptly documents assessments, interventions, patient responses, and provider communication.
- Reviews, initiates, and implements provider orders in a timely manner each shift.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Works closely with physicians, therapists, case managers, and support staff to promote positive patient outcomes.
- Serves as a patient advocate and communicates effectively with patients and families.
- Supervises and delegates to assigned staff appropriately, maintaining accountability for all care delivered.
- Reports performance concerns to ensure safe, consistent patient care.
Patient & Family Education
- Assesses educational needs and provides clear, appropriate written and verbal instructions.
- Documents all teaching and patient/family understanding.
Professional Accountability
- Seeks opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and skills.
- Actively assists colleagues and accepts additional duties as needed.
- Completes required education, certifications, and annual competencies on time.
- Participates in unit‑based councils, contributes to performance improvement efforts, and helps identify and implement solutions to unit needs.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of acute care experience preferably in med/surg or orthopedic nursing
- Strong assessment, communication, and time-management skills

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Current RN license
- BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ACLS preferred at hire or must be successfully obtained within 90 days of hire
- RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program
USD $36.20/Hr.
MaxUSD $59.73/Hr.
