Overview
Coordinates with patients, physicians and operating room to schedule surgeries and pre-operative testing with minimal guidance. Acts as a liaison between patient and provider. Is responsible to verify insurance benefits, pre-certify or obtain authorization for the surgical services, calculate patient out of pocket expense, and counsel patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibilities. Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, highly supportive of all staff roles as needed, and fosters effective communication.
Previous surgery scheduling and computer/EMR experience is required. Provides support to provider and colleagues as needed.
- Demonstrates proficiency with coordinating surgery schedule with patient, physician and operating room (main campus/BOSC/RSH) and communicates it with other staff, practice manager, and provider.
- Utilizes EMR system for scheduling, tracking, and notes documentation and maintains SME (subject matter expert) status.
- Obtains precertification or proper insurance approval prior to surgical procedures and appropriately documents the information.
- Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for procedures; discusses potential financial obligations with patient.
- Maintains 100% compliance with surgical scheduling forms, including Spanish and English consent forms, scheduling requests, pre-anesthesia questionnaires, and preoperative testing/clearances.
- Communicates special equipment/instruments/supply requests to the operating room and/or notifies OR desk of changes in schedule and prior authorization needs.
- Performs extensive follow-up with patients to answer questions, address scheduling concerns, assess needs, and provide patient-specific education as necessary.
- Communicates updates with staff and confirms pre-operative and postoperative appointments are scheduled.
- Monitors the surgery schedule and optimizes resources and workflow, making changes when necessary.
- Supports all staff roles as needed.
- Previous surgery scheduling and computer/EMR experience is required.
- Knowledge and experience with websites for insurance verification/eligibility preferred.
- Prefer CMA, or a graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
- Computer training or demonstrated competency with computer skills.
- Essential:
High school graduate or equivalent - Entry: USD $17.50/Hr.
- Max: USD $27.13/Hr.
