Performs patient care duties under the supervision and direction of a Radiologist and/or technologist staff. Supports operational workflow by preparing patients for imaging studies, gathering related historical data, and assisting with room preparation.
ResponsibilitiesReviews scheduled appointments for correctness: i.e.. Exam, contrast use, diagnosis and authorization number matching appropriate CPT coding. Request order changes to be faxed prior to exam date. Check patient schedule first thing in the morning for additions or changes, organizes priorities for STAT and Urgent patients with technologist. Maintains, stocks and rotates linen and supplies with specific attention to contrast agents.
Alerts the Lead Technologist/Nurse of shortages. Maintains cleanliness/organization of the area. Greet patient at the front desk and accompany to pre-scan/procedure area. Give brief explanation of procedure and gown for appropriate exam. Review questionnaire with patients as they arrive to expedite and maintain schedule. Alert technologist if any answers require investigation. Make sure consent form is signed. Transport or escort patients as necessary providing assistance when needed.
i.e. to patient floors, lobby, Radiology front desk, etc. Reviews paperwork prior to submission to radiologist for reading exams. Answer telephone and follow through on calls. Cross train for all office duties. Alerts file room for authorization to release with patient and directions to obtain a copy of exam and reports. Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner. Is proficient with room setup for routine exams, to include coil selection and injection setup.
Is IV competent. Prepares patient for exam by starting IV access. Understands and complies with aseptic/sterile technique.
Cooperate in a positive and professional manner in assisting department personnel as required. Set a positive and professional atmosphere for patients.
Background in Radiology and/or medical procedures, to include a general knowledge of medical terminology. Minimum of two years clerical experience, preferably in the medical profession. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to push/pull up to 150 lbs. Ability to reposition and turn patients. Must be IV competent. Office management skills. A working knowledge of word processing skills and computer operation are beneficial.
