The Cape Henlopen School District is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Float Teacher to support our Sussex Consortium program. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives on variety, flexibility, and collaboration. The Float Teacher will provide instructional support across various subjects and grade levels, filling in for absent teachers and assisting where needed to ensure a seamless learning experience for students.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality instruction in the absence of assigned teachers.
* Collaborate with teachers and staff to support classroom management and student engagement.
* Adapt quickly to different classrooms, subjects, and teaching styles.
* Follow lesson plans left by teachers or develop and deliver lessons as needed.
* Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
* Support school-wide initiatives, including special projects and events.
* Assist with supervisory duties such as lunch, bus duty, and hallway monitoring.
Qualifications
* Certification:
Valid Delaware teaching certification in Special Education.
* Education:
Bachelor's degree in education
* Experience:
Prior teaching experience preferred.
* Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
* Flexibility and adaptability to work across multiple subjects and grade levels.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions
* Maintain knowledge of and implement Delaware State Standards, classroom management techniques, current best practices, and effective teaching strategies.
* Teach students using strategies that foster concentration, coordination, and independence.
* Collaborate with peers to develop and implement best practices based on students' needs and abilities.
* Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs, providing appropriate instruction.
* Create lessons and environments that are safe, respectful, and engaging.
* Uphold the district's vision, mission, and core values.
* Continuously assess and improve instructional effectiveness through professional development.
* Participate in required staff, team, and individual professional development activities.
* Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
* Be prepared to step into various teaching roles as needed.
* Build rapport with students and staff across the school.
* Develop extracurricular or extended learning lesson plans when directed.
* Maintain accurate and updated records in accordance with classroom and teacher expectations.
* Foster an atmosphere of respect, communication, and global awareness.
* Attend and contribute to staff and faculty meetings, as well as parent meetings and professional development events.
* Abide by district policies, procedures, and expectations as set forth by the school board and administration.
* Competencies:
Success in this position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
* Knowledge
* Familiarity with the Delaware Performance Appraisal System (DPAS-II) and/or Delaware Teacher Growth Support System (DTGSS).
* Understanding of Equity initiatives & resources that promote a culture of diversity and inclusion embracing differences as a strategic opportunity towards leading the District's efforts to build a culture of equality and embodiment for all students, families, employees and the community.
* Must possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Special Education, 504 Plans.
* Must have experience and a working knowledge of Infinite Campus and data management systems in addition to Google Docs to monitor and track student data related to school discipline and climate.
