This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities / employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

Grade - Surrey Police Grade H / Sussex Police Grade 11

Status - Part Time

Contract Type - Permanent

Salary Grade Range - Surrey Police £38,064 - £45,058 / Sussex Police £41,487 - £45,765

Working Hours - 24.0 Hours per Week

Location - Sussex Police Headquarters, Lewes

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role &

Key Responsibilities

This post is being advertised as part of a job share, the post holder will be required to work 24 hours per week over Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Manage the development and implementation of efficient and effective Business Continuity Management within Surrey and Sussex Police.

Have key responsibilities for co-ordinating Business Continuity (BC) plans for both forces. Work with divisional and departmental heads to embed the process by making links with strategic business planning, risk management, environmental scanning and training and exercising.

Develop and maintain the forces Business Continuity Policy to allow Surrey and Sussex Police to work effectively during an incident and allow the discharge of the organisation’s legal, regulatory and corporate governance accountability and responsibilities.

Key accountabilities
  • Manage an effective Business Continuity programme across both forces including Business Impact Assessments, maintenance of plans, training, and exercising in accordance with statutory requirements under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
  • Act as lead advisor on all aspects of Business Continuity, reporting to strategic and chief officer groups as required.
  • Deliver an effective Business Continuity programme which will provide improved resilience, response and recovery in the event of a Business Continuity incident.
  • Provide advice and support to the Gold Commander and / or department head(s) during a Business Continuity or major incident.
  • To be part of a 24 hours on call response capability of the Emergency Planning Team.
Skills & Experience
  • Understanding of Business Continuity and experience of working in this field.
  • Recognised industry qualification in Business Continuity (CBCI or equivalent) is desirable.
  • In depth knowledge and proven application of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 with particular emphasis on Business Continuity.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively deliver specialist advice to a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound corporate understanding including an understanding of current and potential future Business Continuity challenges facing Policing.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a small team effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure during a Business Continuity or major incident.
  • Must be able to travel across Surrey and Sussex by car.
