Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician

Overview

Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Levittown, PA is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department Overnight.

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Proficiently perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers with patience and empathy to address client concerns.

• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT), or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) — preferred for certain roles and eligibility.
• Experience in emergency or critical care is strongly preferred.
• Ability to work overnights in a fast-paced environment and provide care and comfort to critically ill or injured patients.

Shift Time: 10:00pm–8:00am or 7:00pm–7:00am

Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Pay: $21.00 – $43.00 per hour

Sign-on bonus: up to $5,000 for qualified LVT, CVT, RVT, LVMT, or VTS

Note: This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked at night and on weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. Examples:

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 differential
