About the RoleThe Health and Safety Specialist role is a one-year contract that involves overseeing safety practices, coaching safe work behaviors, and leading incident investigations at the Project Sunlight facility. Additionally, it includes supporting health and safety programs, documenting incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols like LOTO and inspections.
What You’ll Be Doing- Observing and maintaining safety work practices throughout the facility
- Coaching and intervening in safe work practices
- Maintaining, initiating, leading, and documenting incident investigations
- Participating in Health and Safety Programs, including Safety Interactions, GEMBA, and Risk Assessments
- Supporting incident reporting, tracking, and monitoring incident rates per shift
- Being a resource and leading safe facilitation of LOTO when needed
- Document control and audits, such as inspection forms, incident reports, investigations, etc.
- Communicating safety incidents and toolbox safety moments
- Assisting in Health and Safety program completion
- Health and safety education
- 1-2 years of experience working in the field of health and safety
- Manufacturing experience is an asset
- Strong administrative skills with the ability to navigate various software systems, including Intelex, Microsoft suite, and Velocity
- Willingness to participate in training and coaching of new employees in procedure adherence and safe work practices
- Ability to work well with plant supervision and production employees
- Team player with excellent attendance
- Analytical, organized, and attention to detail
- Ability to accept and embrace change in a fast-paced environment
- Good safety record
- Organizational and time management skills
- Supports and maintains the Management System
- Participates in Continuous Improvement activities (as required by MDI)
- Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to master other specialized software/EMIS platforms (Intelex)
- Compliance with regulations
- Reduction of incident rates by implementing health & safety programs
- Training effectiveness: completion rates and assessment of employee health & safety knowledge and understanding
- Continued improvements based on incident investigations, hazard assessments, and employee feedback
- Hourly rate $34.57 after six months $35.26
