A Resident Assistant (RA) is an exemplary Lethbridge Polytechnic student, leader, and role model living within an assigned Residence community. RAs act as mentors and offer support to students living on campus. They have responsibilities in the areas of community building and management, program and event planning, and resident support, in addition to being an information source. A Resident Assistant’s primary responsibility is to promote a positive Residence community in accordance with the philosophies of Lethbridge Polytechnic and Lethbridge Polytechnic Residence Life.
CommunityDevelopment & Management
- Plan and host small scale Residence Life events
- Prepare passive programming (e.g., bulletin boards, social media content, newsletter content, etc.)
- Promote a positive and inclusive Residence community
- Establish, develop, and maintain an open relationship with other members of the Residence community, regularly interacting with other residents
- Encourage residents to take an active role in protecting, managing, and building their own community
- Respond to any emergency & non-emergency incidents or issues
- Thoroughly and accurately report and document any Residence incidents or issues
- Respond to student and campus community member inquiries (answer office phone calls, manage in‑person inquiries, etc.)
- Perform operational tasks (distributing resident mail, basic office maintenance and organization, etc.)
- In slower times, prepare, research, and plan residence wide events
- Provide change for laundry services
- Lethbridge Polytechnic student in good academic standing (minimum 1.5 GPA)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- At least one semester living in Lethbridge Polytechnic Residence
- Outgoing, enthusiastic, and positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow procedures
- Demonstrate confidence and the ability to enforce residence policies and report incidents
- Creative and able to organize and execute an event/activity plan
- Take initiative and work with minimal supervision
Salary: $332.44 per 4 on-call shifts; AUPE Class Level 1 Step 1 $ 16.25/hr
