Job Title: Pipeline Engineer IV
Location: Calgary or Edmonton
Length: 1 year (possibility of extension)
Rotation: 3 days in office (Mon/Tues/Thurs) and 2 days remote (Wed/Friday)
Role SummaryProvides senior-level engineering expertise for pipeline design and construction execution within the Projects organization. Acts as a subject matter expert in pipeline routing, design standards, geotechnical and hydrotechnical considerations, and trenchless feasibility. Supports project teams, engineering firms, and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective pipeline delivery. May lead technical initiatives or provide oversight on complex design packages.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure all pipelines and associated facilities are designed in accordance with applicable regulations, industry codes, and corporate specifications/standards.
- Oversee scheduling, cost estimating, forecasting, and progress reporting for pipeline design activities.
- Lead and participate in design reviews with external engineering firms and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Procurement & Supply Chain to source materials and contract engineering service providers.
- Provide technical support during construction, including field queries, design clarifications, and commissioning assistance.
- Support regulatory applications by preparing preliminary layouts, technical descriptions, and other required engineering documentation.
- Evaluate trenchless design feasibility, pipeline stress analysis, and surface loading calculations (CEPA).
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, safety, and reliability expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensures compliance with CSA Z662, DOT CFR 192/195, ASME B31, NACE, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Provides senior technical leadership to meet design, safety, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Contributes to risk assessments, constructability reviews, and lessons learned.
- Supports continuous improvement through technology evaluation and engineering best practices.
- Influences technical decisions and project direction with minimal oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with APEGA.
- Minimum 6 years of pipeline engineering experience, including routing, design, and hazard assessment (geotechnical and hydrotechnical).
- Strong knowledge of CSA, ASME, API, DOT, NACE, and related materials standards and specifications.
- Experience with trenchless design, pipeline stress analysis software, and CEPA surface loading calculations.
- Effective communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team‑focused environment.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (subject to motor vehicle check).
- Office‑based hybrid work model.
- 10–20% travel to project sites and other company offices across Canada and the U.S.
- Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required to support project needs.
