Hours:

08:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday (flexible start and finish times available)

Our client, a well-established consultancy firm, is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Ecologist to join their team. About the Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you will deliver a range of ecological consultancy services to an exceptional standard. You will be responsible for managing projects, supervising field surveys, and producing detailed reports. You will also play a key role in mentoring a small team of ecologists and assistants, ensuring their professional development and overseeing their work programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with clients, attend site meetings, and produce quotations and costed proposals.
  • Design and specify surveys and projects.
  • Supervise and undertake field survey work.
  • Write and supervise reports for various ecological consultancy work, including UK Habitat Surveys and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Complete Biodiversity Net Gain baseline assessments and contribute to Habitat Management & Monitoring Plans.
  • Work closely with other consultants on joint projects and support operational teams in practical project delivery.
  • Manage and support a team of ecologists and assistants.
Requirements (Essential)
  • A degree in ecology or a related subject.
  • Extensive professional ecological experience with a consultancy background.
  • Thorough knowledge of UK and European legislation related to protected species and habitats.
  • Experience preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Strong field surveyor skills, including extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and protected species surveys.
  • Protected species survey licences, including at least Level 2 bat licence and Level 1 great crested newt licence.
  • Proven experience of line managing staff and overseeing teams of field surveyors.
  • Full member of CIEEM.
  • Technical proficiency using Microsoft Office and GIS.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage project finances.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable
  • Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist.
  • Masters degree in a related subject.
  • Survey licences for dormouse, otter, barn owl, and low impact class licences for bat and badger.
  • Experience as an expert witness at a planning inquiry.
  • Experience undertaking Breeding Bird Surveys and data analysis.
  • Technical proficiency in specialist software such as AutoCAD and Cartographer.
  • Tree Climbing & Aerial Tree Rescue qualification.
