About the Job:Lead the design and development of advanced helmet systems and related equipment, incorporating cutting‑edge materials and technologies for aircrew and groundcrew applications. Drive projects from concept through production, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership in new product development (NPD/NPI), including design reviews (PDR/CDR) and risk analysis.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with ISO
9001/AS9100 and DAOS regulations. - Manage technical information and support for creation of drawings, bills of materials and related process and control documentation.
- Support the implementation of product testing and test procedures for both internal and external facilities during all phases of product life cycle.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and corporate facilities – worldwide.
- Conduct feasible studies involving cost, manufacturability, performance and quality.
- Lead design to cost, ensuring all new products meet the cost targets for piece parts and manufacturing costs.
- Support internal and external audits and compliance with regulations and standards.
Skills:
- The ability to communicate design concepts and engineering principles to individual team members and groups from different disciplines and areas of the business
- Develop mechanical and composite designs using Solid Works and GD&T principles.
- Experience in composite materials and design for manufacturability.
- Track and implement new composite & polymer technologies.
- A background in aviation/defense engineering or working under a DAOS Approval scheme beneficial.
- Analyzing and interpreting data, with recommendations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Use of general workshop machinery and tools.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Packages including Excel, Word, Project and Visio.
Experience:
- Degree, HND, time served apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
- 5 years minimum in a similar role within an engineering environment.
- Experience of leading small teams.
