Position SummaryThe Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership by identifying, developing and executing capital projects for the factory. This position will maintain visibility to the design process and assure adherence to all established key components and project deliverables as well as directly manage overall project execution including construction and commissioning. Additionally, this position will coordinate with the client as well as various other groups inside and outside of the organization.
Key Responsibilities Preliminary Project Development including Charter Development- Assist in development of pre-project approval documents including project charter, project management plan, project kick‑start, estimate and milestone schedule.
- Monitor design progress and ensure deliverables meet established project key components.
- Receive design details from design team to coordinate bid package development and release for construction bidding and field execution.
- Select contractors and contracting methods based on engineering ways of working methodology.
- Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
- Manage adherence to project scope and secure approvals for all changes.
- Manage and control project budget, providing cost forecasts and cash‑flow projections; develop project cost and status reports at least monthly.
- Maintain project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed upon in the project charter.
- Collect and report project data and feedback.
- Ensure compliance with quality and GMP requirements in accordance with FDA and OSHA regulations.
- Provide construction management and plant startup assistance to ensure successful project execution.
- Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and pre‑qualification vetting processes.
- Provide self‑directed project management of assigned projects from end to end with minimal supervision from department manager.
- Monitor work output from less senior engineers on the project team as assigned.
- Provide technical support to Factory operations.
- Support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM).
- Maintain an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations; never implement any change without first questioning its impact on product safety/quality, people safety, and the environment.
- Ensure that highest principles of ethical conduct on behalf of the community, consumer, company, and the engineering profession are adhered to and that all dealings remain within a competitive and fair environment.
- Support and encourage clear and open communication between team members and related stakeholders.
- Ensure procedures for protecting Nestlé's technological and proprietary know‑how are in place and actively implemented.
- (BA/BS) or equivalent experience and minimum 1+ year of related work experience.
- Project Management experience 1+ year, leading projects less than $1 million; experience with PMI Project Management Institute stage‑gate procedures and tools.
- Knowledge of I & I pillar project methods; able to manage scope, cost, schedule, and risks on small and minor projects.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Ability to use problem‑solving techniques to resolve issues and implement change.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to complete major projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to schedule resources effectively so continuous improvement is not sacrificed for day‑to‑day results.
- Additional consideration for subject‑matter experts in a particular field of engineering (e.g., process, packaging, refrigeration).
- Coaching required from Factory Engineering Manager on a regular basis.
