First Assist Registered Nurse

The First Assist Registered Nurse serves as the primary first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology and throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted. This role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for all age patients in the operating room, provides care within nursing standards of practice, and makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs.
Responsibilities also include effective communication with physicians, patients, family members, and interdepartmental personnel, as well as participation in quality improvement audits and projects as directed by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room or Director of Nursing.
- Current RN licensed in the state of Maryland
- CPR required, advanced life support certification required
- One year experience required in an intra‑operative setting
- Two years perioperative services experience preferred
- Completion of an RNFA Program
- Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities
- Excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique
- Ability to prepare reports and keep records
- Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items required
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing patient conditions when needed
- Excellent team player with strong communication skills with staff, patients, and physicians
Pay Range: Min: $50.00/hr to Max: $60.00/hr (Wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.)
