The RoleThe Fleet Manager is a highly structured and focused leader responsible for managing Hallcon’s fleet operations supporting rail crew transportation services. This role oversees the lifecycle, utilization, safety, and performance of a 2,000+ fleet of vehicles operating across multiple markets.
The Fleet Manager ensures vehicles are safe, compliant, properly maintained, and available to meet operational demands. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational discipline, data-driven decision making, and a proactive approach to fleet optimization and asset management.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure fleet compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage vehicle acquisition, deployment, replacement planning, and decommissioning strategies.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance programs and ensure timely vehicle inspections and repairs.
- Monitor fleet telematics, vehicle performance data, and safety indicators to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Work closely with Operations, Safety, and Maintenance teams to ensure fleet readiness and reliability.
- Oversee vendor relationships including maintenance providers, leasing partners, and fleet technology vendors.
- Track and manage fleet-related expenses including maintenance, fuel, repairs, and lifecycle costs.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve fleet efficiency, reduce downtime, and control operating costs.
- Support safety initiatives by ensuring vehicles meet operational safety standards and are properly maintained.
- Conduct periodic vehicle audits and facility inspections to verify operational and safety standards.
- Lead fleet-related projects including technology implementations, vehicle conversions, and operational improvements.
- Provide reporting and analysis on fleet performance metrics, asset utilization, and cost management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Transportation Management, Logistics, Automotive Management, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of fleet management, transportation operations, or logistics experience, preferably supporting large multi-location operations.
- Experience managing large vehicle fleets and fleet maintenance programs.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and transportation safety requirements preferred.
- Experience working with fleet management systems, telematics platforms, or transportation analytics tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships and maintenance providers.
- Strong operational planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision making.
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to conduct vehicle inspections and occasionally lift or move equipment up to 25–50 pounds.
- Strong sense of urgency and accountability to ensure fleet readiness and operational reliability.
