Clinical Pharmacist Supervisor - Ambulatory Clinical Services

Position Summary / Career Interest: The Clinical Pharmacist Supervisor for Ambulatory Clinical Services will report to a Clinical Manager and have Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacist and Specialty Pharmacy Financial Patient Advocates (PPA) direct reports. Responsibilities will include leading bi‑weekly check‑ins with pharmacists, overseeing Workday check‑ins, approving timecards and creating a plan for pharmacist coverage (when necessary, ex: FMLA), identifying and escalating workflow issues or opportunities to the clinical manager, as well as other project specific work assigned by the clinical manager.

The Clinical Pharmacist Supervisor will assist with optimizing the pharmacist and PPA working relationship and associated operations and be involved in PPA operations and oversight. The role will also maintain a staffing component in a clinic setting. Candidates should have 3‑5+ years of clinical experience and be interested in leadership.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates competence in the area of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently for the care of each patient.
  • Continually reports medication incidents and adverse drug reactions and participates in medication incident review, peer review, or other activities to establish safe medication systems.
  • Does not spend majority of time performing the work supervised
  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the team towards its goals in direct supervision of pharmacy employees.
  • Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors
  • Uses labor resources effectively by maintaining awareness of daily workload and workflow challenges to optimize the utilization of all existing labor resources.
  • Provides proposals for approval when labor or equipment needs have financial implications.
  • Identifies opportunities to manage cost through effective drug utilization and labor use.
  • Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and the local business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager
  • Leads and coordinates the clinical and operational activities of the assigned program and oversees processes, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and regulations
  • Conducts pharmaceutical procurement and resource utilization with economic and clinical consideration
  • Coordinates training and education for pharmacy staff related to program initiatives
  • Ensures patient safety and quality, optimizes service and supports people through accountability, application of effective problem‑solving techniques and continual improvement.
  • Supervises the daily activities of individual contributors on a business support, technical or support services team
  • Supervises daily activities of individual contributors, ensuring adequate staffing coverage to meet customer needs and adjusting based on team member availability and workload.
  • Identifies strengths of team members and assists frontline employees in leveraging those strengths in their work
  • Handles recruitment and all aspects of personnel management supporting the development of each team member.
  • Leads team through participation in huddles, teams, committees and interdisciplinary efforts ensuring systems, processes, and workflows meet expectations and follow policies and procedures.
  • Shares pharmaceutical expertise by coordinating and providing educational presentations or in‑services for pharmacy and non‑pharmacy staff.
  • Serves as an effective communicator of the organization’s vision and goals and the pharmacy’s role in achieving those.
  • Actively displays and promotes the principles and behaviors of our Pharmacy Culture.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with peers and stakeholders with a focus on exceptional service to internal and external customers.
