LocationThis position would be based out of our office in Lenexa, KS; however, we have opportunity for flexible work based on your experience and level.
Responsibilities- Perform thermal flexibility analyses for critical piping systems to ensure system integrity and compliance with ASME Codes, using AutoPIPE.
- Perform analysis of sustained, thermal displacement, occasional (wind, seismic, relief, turbine trip etc.) and test (hydrotest) loads.
- Use AutoPIPE to ensure acceptable piping nozzle loads on equipment like steam turbines, compressors, pumps, tanks, exchangers, heaters etc.
- Select appropriate pipe supports and develop detailed specifications for procurement (shoes, guides, rigid rod hangers, spring hangers, snubbers, and struts).
- Calculate and organize pipe support loads transmitted to structural steel into an Excel format that can be easily interpreted by structural and other disciplines.
- Perform supplemental calculations for localized stresses to verify the integrity of fittings, attachments and other irregular geometries using manual calculations, Excel, Mathcad or Nozzle Pro.
- Organize and maintain AutoPIPE analysis, reference documentation and supplemental calculations in project folders with established naming conventions and revision history integrity.
- Prepare stress calculation packages to document design basis, verify proper checking and signoffs and track revision history.
- Check AutoPIPE analysis and stress calculations performed by other members of the piping engineering group.
- Review piping isometric drawings to ensure pipe supports, piping materials, fittings and other details align with the AutoPIPE analysis.
- Review P&IDs, Line Designation tables and thermal performance data to ensure alignment between overall system design, stress analysis and piping isometric drawings.
- Review and check designs, drawings, interface details and data from external suppliers of components like pipe supports, valves and rotating equipment.
- Collaborate with structural engineering team to issue pipe support loads imposed on structural steel and refine details at structural steel‑pipe support contact points.
- Collaborate with designers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers and construction team to optimize pipe routing and support schemes.
- Follow established workflows and work diligently to meet aggressive schedule demands supporting construction.
- 2+ years power plant design experience (or related plant design experience) with emphasis in pipe stress analysis/design and support.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited university.
- Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification required;
Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred. - Proficiency with AutoPIPE or combination of AutoPIPE and CAESAR, or advanced stress analysis skills in CAESAR II.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, comfortable collaborating in hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of design codes and standards applicable for pipe support design work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Teams and Excel.
