Role OverviewSenior Fire Engineering Manager – leading a team of engineers and designers in the fire protection discipline. This hybrid technical‑leadership and people‑management role guides projects from concept to completion, fosters continuous improvement, and aligns team performance with organizational goals.
Responsibilities- Lead, manage and mentor a team of discipline‑aligned engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture.
- Act as hiring manager and career coach; attend interviews, provide performance feedback, and guide skill progression.
- Participate in project scheduling meetings to ensure staff assignments match project scopes and monitor progress to meet objectives.
- Provide hands‑on coaching, conduct individualized meetings, and help set goals.
- Assist sector leaders in creating and implementing goals, policies, and standards at the practice and sector level.
- Champion technical directives, facilitating upward feedback to leadership.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to manage project staff resources and discipline budgets.
- Improve project and design quality through reviews, check‑ins, and providing final reviews where required.
- Understand, teach, and apply Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures as a technical resource.
- Coordinate project activities: manage emails, scope, schedule, design team coordination, client meetings, and delivery.
- Foster client‑centric mindset and internal approach.
- Share technical and process improvements proactively with peers and leaders.
- Direct and oversee preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Lead projects from concept through completion.
- Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Research and recommend systems or equipment, evaluate and recommend products for application.
- Develop solutions to complex engineering problems through direct involvement or advisory roles.
- Ensure drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Communicate with clients on requirements and scope, maintaining proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
- Anticipate and answer client and architect questions; act as a resource for fact‑finding.
- Visit job sites to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
- Resolve conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors.
- Identify and fill gaps in industry or discipline knowledge continuously.
- Understand and share emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving codes and standards.
- Perform to high industry standards associated with carrying a PE license and serving as an Engineer of Record (EOR). Deliver highest quality work and accountability to projects.
- Potentially act as Engineer of Record, overseeing signing and sealing of projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering (preferred). High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive engineering experience.
- Expert knowledge in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards across various programs and project types.
- Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
- Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering design software.
