Position

Summary

The Financial & Accounting Specialist supports core accounting, reporting, and compliance activities across the organization. This role is intentionally flexible and may be scoped at different levels depending on the candidate’s experience, skill set and demonstrated capability. Responsibilities, level of autonomy, and FLSA classification (exempt or non-exempt) will be determined accordingly.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow, as well as for a more experienced individual seeking broader responsibility in a collaborative finance environment.

Core Responsibilities

Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, billing, and collections support

  • Assist with general ledger maintenance, including preparation of journal entries
  • Perform account reconciliations (bank, credit card, balance sheet accounts)
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
  • Assist with inventory tracking, reconciliation, and reporting
  • Support sales tax registrations, filings, payments, and documentation
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and organized documentation
  • Respond to internal inquiries related to invoices and payments
Expanded Responsibilities

Depending on experience and demonstrated proficiency, the role may also include:

  • Independently managing complex reconciliations and close activities
  • Coordinating multi-state sales tax compliance and working with external tax advisors
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for audit requests
  • Assisting with financial reporting, analysis, and variance explanations
  • Supporting internal controls and process documentation
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies
  • Assisting with accounting system enhancements or implementations
  • Providing guidance or informal support to junior team members
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
Experience
  • 1–5+ years of accounting or finance experience
  • Early-career candidates with strong fundamentals are encouraged to apply
  • More experienced candidates may be considered for expanded scope and autonomy
Skills & Knowledge
  • Understanding of basic to intermediate accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, data analysis)
  • Experience with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite, Sage, Dynamics, Quick Books)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
Certifications (Preferred, Not Required)
  • CPA or CPA-eligible a plus
  • Additional accounting coursework or certifications considered a plus
