Essential Job Functions
- Provides support to a team of Planning and Inspections staff
- Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various projects
- Conducts field work, collects parcel data and searches land records
- Prepares maps and planning reports of limited or variable complexity
- Produces sketches and renderings of limited or variable complexity
- Assists planning staff at public meetings
- Presents report findings at team and board meetings
- Conducts basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service
- Works on special and long-term projects in planning areas such as long-range, transportation, environmental, economic, and community development
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be currently enrolled in 2 or 4-year degree programs with relevant degree paths
- Must be able to work a minimum of eight hours a week.
- Must pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
- General knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to complete projects within timelines and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to research, collect, organize and analyze data and to prepare technical reports.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, medical personnel, court personnel and the general public.
This work may require exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting;
work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with copier/printer, light traffic).
