Environmental & Sustainability Manager - Sizewell C (Leiston)

Matchtech are recruiting on behalf of a major contractor for an experienced Environmental & Sustainability Manager to join their team on the Sizewell C project. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Civil Engineering or Construction who is passionate about driving environmental performance, compliance, and innovation across complex infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing and enhancing environmental and sustainability (E&S) performance across multiple projects, while also contributing to the development and delivery of wider business strategies. A full UK driving licence is required due to travel between project sites.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review project‑specific environmental documentation.
Manage and maintain the validity of Section 61 consents and environmental permits/licences.
Ensure project teams fully understand and meet client sustainability requirements.
Conduct audits and report environmental performance to internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.
Support sites with developing and delivering material management plans for reuse and responsible disposal.
Provide technical guidance on significant environmental challenges.
Monitor and review project performance to identify and address improvement areas.
Collate, analyse, and present E&S data for internal and client reporting.
Ensure robust compliance with environmental legislation and company standards.
Liaise effectively with clients, local authorities, and statutory bodies.
Investigate environmental incidents where required.
Assist with implementing the company's EMS/EnMS and ensure compliance across project sites.
Work with site teams and buyers to promote sustainable procurement and ethical sourcing; explore opportunities for carbon reduction.
Deliver training on environmental management and sustainability to project teams and supply chain partners.
Support the development and rollout of the company's environmental and sustainability strategy.
Experience & Knowledge
Strong understanding of environmental legislation and associated guidelines.
Experience conducting formal audits.
Demonstrated ability to embed sustainability principles across construction projects.
Skilled in maintaining accurate records and documentation systems.
Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and industry‑specific software packages.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong relationship‑building and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to integrate well with multidisciplinary construction teams.
Highly organised, able to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Qualifications
Membership of a relevant environmental body (e.g., IEMA).
Relevant Environmental or Sustainability qualification.
ISO 14001 / 50001 auditor training (Lead Auditor preferred)
