Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

General Operations Technician – BR107

Hear from the hiring manager: “The Sizewell A Decommissioning Team are looking to recruit a General Operations Technician who is enthusiastic, highly driven and focused on safely delivering the decommissioning mission. This is a General Operations Technician role, who will be required to be trained, gain decommissioning experience and integrate seamlessly into a highly skilled and experienced decommissioning team. The Operative will primarily be required to work within the Decommissioning Programme, primarily in the Ponds, but may need to support the Plant and Structures Programme when required.

It is a key decommissioning role to safely deliver the portfolio of decommissioning works.”

Please note the working hours are 07.25 – 17.00, Monday to Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week.

Responsibilities
  • Drive and deliver the decommissioning mission, as instructed by your Team Leader.
  • Maintain the standards required in personal, industrial, radiological, and nuclear safety procedures by ensuring compliance with Site and Control documentation.
  • Complies with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality on Site.
  • Actively support and encourage the use of Human Performance Error Prevention Tools.
  • Complete specialist training / hold authorisations for current and future decommissioning processes identified by the programme to maintain adequate SQEPness (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons) for decommissioning activities during the life cycle of the programme.
  • Gain authorisation for entry to radio logically controlled areas up to and including R4 (Radiological) / C4 (Classification) for decommissioning and compliance activities (must be able to wear a respirator).
  • Ensure you remain personally SQEP for the role by enrolling on requested Learning Management System (LMS) courses and attending mandatory training within agreed timescales. The training required includes but not limited to being a Classified Worker under the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRRs), becoming a ‘Competent Person’ under the Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) Safety Rules and gaining/maintaining the Nuclear Occupational First Aid (NOFA) qualification and associated authorisation.
