The Opportunity

We are looking for a Operate Technicians to join our team here at Sizewell B Power Station where you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices.

The salary range for this post is £33,748 to £53,385 depending on experience and an appropriate shift allowance will also be paid once training is complete and shift work commences.

What you’ll be doing

The successful candidate(s) will become members of the Operations Department, working a shift pattern. This includes nights, weekends, and bank holidays (including Christmas). It is expected that staff will hold multiple plant area competencies, and an Emergency Scheme Role.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Operate Technicians should:
  • Exhibit high standards of performance as defined within Conduct of Operations.
  • Monitor plant conditions and record values and observations.
  • Trend plant condition, and report observations that are outside of expected values.
  • Respond to requests from the control room to investigate plant alarms and perform plant manipulations.
  • Support the work management process through the execution of tasks identified on the station plan and the isolation of identified plant.
  • Log activities performed during the shift to enable accurate, comprehensive handovers to the oncoming shift.
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of Operations.
  • Ensure Operating procedures are fit for purpose by undertaking periodic or event-based reviews and raising any necessary document amendments.
  • Actively acknowledge errors, seek help when needed, and assume responsibility for decisions and actions.
  • Perform emergency scheme duties for which they are trained, in any emergency situation, (nuclear, chemical, fire, accident)
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and local directives, procedures and Safety Rules.
  • Monitor plant conditions, identifies and resolves substandard conditions through the Work request, Tool pouch and helpdesk processes.
  • Manipulate the plant using station Operating procedures and appropriate human performance tools.
  • Investigate plant faults and carry out minor maintenance, as appropriate, within own area of demonstrated competence.
  • Contribute to Organisational Learning by routinely raising condition reports and evaluating fleet events and OPEX.
  • Mentor and train others in specific technical areas to meet the requirement of the Systematic Approach to Training.
  • Reinforce attitudes and nuclearprofessionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment.
