This is a hands‑on, varied role combining depot‑based diagnostics with roadside breakdown work, ideal for a confident technician who thrives on problem‑solving and independence.
The RoleAs an HGV Breakdown Technician, you'll be on the frontline keeping vehicles safe, compliant, and roadworthy. Your responsibilities will include:
- Responding efficiently to roadside breakdowns and customer call‑outs
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
- Servicing and repairing HGVs to DVSA and MOT standards
- Completing inspections, job cards, and timesheets accurately
- Ensuring all work meets legal and safety requirements
- Working independently while maintaining excellent communication with customers and colleagues
- Representing the business with a professional, customer‑focused approach
45 hours per week
Monday‑Friday, plus every other Saturday morning
Alternating weekly shifts:
- Week 1: 06:00 - 13:00
- Week 2: 13:00 - 22:00
On‑call rota: overnight, every other week
Majority of work is depot‑based, with some roadside breakdowns
Pay & Allowances£18.66 per hour
£37.50 per call‑out
£25 per on‑call night
Overtime available
OTE up to £60,000 per year
Requirements – Essential- IVR Qualification for Roadside Assistance
- Full UK driving licence
- Category C1 licence
- Qualified HGV Technician (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)
- Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding experience
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Own tools (annual tooling allowance provided)
- Previous roadside breakdown experience
- Main dealer background
- Experience with Renault Trucks (beneficial, not essential)
- IRTEC qualification
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
