Overview

The role of Communications Manager is a fast-paced and challenging one, working in one of the five biggest NHS Trusts in the country. You will be part of a creative, friendly and passionate team, delivering University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust's vision to be 'leading in healthcare, trusted in communities'. The role has a strong focus on building and maintaining internal relationships and delivering business-as-usual communications, supporting key campaigns and projects.

The post leads and delivers an audience-focused digital communications approach across website, intranet and social media channels. This role is critical in ensuring we deliver effective, high-quality communications for patients, colleagues and communities. You will contribute to high-quality care, a great place to work, partnerships for impact, and research and education excellence, and you will help embed health equality in all we do.

You will line manage communications officers and a communications assistant, translating client asks into creative ideas and effective communications, both internally and externally. The role acts as a subject-matter expert for digital communications across the organisation and builds strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers to support digital delivery. The post holder may deputise for the Head of Communications – Content and Channels in their absence, including day-to-day management of direct reports and handling communications across internal, external and digital channels.

Creating content that meets accessibility standards, brand guidelines and tone of voice requirements is a key aspect of the role. The Communications Manager will use web and social media analytics and insights to monitor performance and continuously improve digital channels. You will lead projects and deliver stand-alone communications and campaigns from start to end, acting as an adviser to colleagues across the Trust and representing communications at multi-agency meetings.

An understanding of crisis management and the ability to work under pressure is desirable.

The organisation’s strategy (2023–2030) defines four primary goals: high-quality care for all; being a great place to work; partnerships for impact; and research and education excellence. It also aims to embed health equality in all activities, reducing avoidable differences in healthcare in partnership with communities. Values: we are compassionate, we are proud, we are inclusive, and we are one team.
