Barnett Hill Hotel, part of Alexander Hotels, a private collection of quality hotels of distinction just outside London. It is a beautiful Queen Anne style property, built in 1905, set within 26 acres of lovingly maintained gardens and woodlands, sitting in the heart of the Surrey Hill area of outstanding natural beauty just outside Guildford, Surrey. Since its purchase, the venue has been transformed into a beautiful 4‑Star AA Country House Hotel.

The hotel includes 56 boutique rooms, suites and residences, appointed with designer furnishings and spread across the main Mansion House, Courtyard and Gardener’s Cottage. Our luxurious Oak Room restaurant, 1905 Bar, Library and a range of sumptuous lounges and private dining rooms provide dining for all tastes. As our Gardener you will ensure the maintenance and presentation of the gardens, grounds and external areas of the property are always looking attractive. These high standards reflect pride and ownership, delivering a cared‑for and tidy grounds and gardens that create a welcoming first impression and a pleasant outside environment for hotel guests and visitors. You will play an important part in delivering outstanding service.

The 26 acres mainly comprise woodland areas, with formal gardens and a feature pond surrounding the main buildings. A tree‑lined driveway with shrubbed and lawned areas requires your attention.

• Work to a clear, well‑thought‑out seasonal plan with the Gardening Assistant to ensure success and excellent presentation all year round
• Complete all gardening duties and tasks, ensuring all borders and planted areas are well presented
• Ensure top‑quality lawns through effective spiking, treating, regular mowing, trimming of lawn edges and watering
• Keep all driveways and parking areas clean and well maintained
• Care for all pots/planters and plant with seasonal displays
• Ensure all paths are swept, well maintained and in good safe repair
• Carry out seasonal pruning, hedge trimming, planting and leave clearing as required
• Liaise with external grounds contractors for larger tasks
• Ensure the safe use, maintenance and security of all tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles used on the grounds/gardens
• Work in a safe way, always ensuring guest safety and comfort in the scheduling and completion of tasks
• Manage resources with the Garden Assistant to maintain consistent standards, obtaining approval from the General Manager for expenditure
• Liaise with the sales team to ensure the correct focus of work, creating a great impression for outside events and weddings
• Ensure planned work does not interrupt guests enjoying their stay
• Ensure confetti is blown away from the entrance to the hotel
• Dispose of ash from fireplaces and follow safe practices of work in place
• Ensure supply of wood for open fires throughout the winter
• Complete basic maintenance duties in case of extremely bad weather

• Passionate gardener and grounds person with good all‑round knowledge
• Enthusiastic about working outdoors throughout the year, with good fitness and stamina
• Methodical, tidy and well‑managed working methods to ensure all priority areas are maintained and well presented throughout the week
• A smart person with a friendly disposition when meeting guests on the grounds and working with colleagues
• Ability to work varied days (3 days per week, including some weekends) from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm, with seasonal changes
