Overview
As a housekeeper working in maternity at University Hospital Leicester, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for mothers, babies, and staff. You will ensure that clinical and non-clinical areas are cleaned to a high standard, restock essential supplies, support infection-prevention practices, and assist with the organisation of patient areas to help the unit run smoothly.
By providing reliable practical support, housekeepers contribute to the comfort and wellbeing of families and help the maternity clinical teams focus on delivering high quality maternity care.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Establish effective relationships and communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary team.
- Stock up equipment and complete audits.
- Continuing education and personal development.
- Promote and practice the highest standards of hygiene and infection prevention.
- Monitor the adequacy of linen deliveries, reporting defects or inadequate supplies to the ward sister or nurse in charge of shift.
- Keep the sluice and utility areas tidy and bag soiled linen in accordance with Trust policy.
- Assist the team to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness of clinical medical equipment such as dressing trolleys and drip stands.
- Ensure and monitor that repairs are reported and carried out as quickly as possible on any broken equipment.
- Monitor the clinical area’s state of cleanliness and tidiness and carry out any other minor housekeeping duties as required.
- Undertake the collection, ordering and distribution of parent/carers food in a timely manner at appropriate meal times.
- Assist in ordering, monitoring and maintaining clinical area stocks of medical supplies, consumables and sundries as required.
- Take responsibility for maintaining own and others’ health, safety and security and report to the Ward Manager any matters relating to safety or security.
- Carry out duties in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1971.
- Assist and maintain a safe and hazard-free area of work.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and information relating to patient and personnel is used only in connection with authorised duties.
- Communicate and liaise effectively with nursing, domestic, catering staff and multidisciplinary team at all times using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
You must be able to work a mixture of nights, long days, weekends and bank holidays. The post holder is required to use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and the quality of their work and the service they provide to patients.
