AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.

But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.

Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:

  • might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
  • often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
  • could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience

We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Job overview

The department is the host for the East Midlands radiotherapy network and has excellent transport links around the region and with the rest of the country. Being based at the Royal Infirmary site you will be within walking distance of the vibrant and historical city centre of Leicester.

Our scanners are Canon and GE wide bores with 4

DCT and we use the ARIA Oncology management system, Prosoma Virtual Simulation and Varian Eclipse treatment planning systems. We have completed our linac replacement programme and have 4 True Beam linacs and a Halcyon linac.

The new purpose built brachytherapy suite contains the Varian Gamma Med brachytherapy unit which is being replaced this year and our superficial unit is also being replaced this year. We offer a wide range of treatments including DIBH and SA  for both primary lung and oligometastatic disease and we are introducing SGRT to 2 of our Truebeam linacs in the spring of this year.

There is a strong focus on staff development and culture so this is an excellent opportunity to utilise your clinical and leadership skills for the benefit of the LLR patient population and for those patients from further afield.

As a Band 6 you will be responsible for the area you are working in ensuring the workload is managed effectively and efficiently and staff and students are supported to meet their objectives. Please note overseas candidates are welcome to apply but must provide evidence of IELTS at Level 7 in your application.

Main duties of the job
  • To be responsible for the accurate preparation, planning and delivery of treatment by self and all members of the relevant team.
  • To organise and supervise the work schedules and patient management on a Linear Accelerator or CT Scanner on a daily basis.
  • To assist the Superintendent Radiographers in the daily management of the professional, efficient and effective provision of high quality care.
  • To comply with all Trust and Departmental Policies, procedures and protocols, commenting and suggesting changes as necessary.
  • To ensure a patient centred approach to the radiotherapy service.
Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years ).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact,
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
