We are looking for a ward clerk cover for the maternity wards to work shifts to over 3/4 days a week including weekends and bank holidays.
We require a reliable and highly organised individual who has excellent communication skills, to work within a busy maternity service. The vacancy is at both the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.
You must also be able to demonstrate an adaptable, enthusiastic approach to your work, and the ability to manage your workload with various competing demands for your time and attention within a busy clinical area.
The post is suitable for an individual wishing to work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team, communicating with patients, families and clinical staff in the ward environment. You must be able to be courteous, respectful and helpful at all times.
The successful post holder will provide and maintain an efficient and effective administration service to the ward team. Therefore, previous administration experience and computer skills are desirable.

Main duties of the job- Treat all patients, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect; maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment, and report all incidents/accidents to Senior Staff.
- Keep the patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients.
- Be responsible for inpatient/outpatient notes ensuring:
- They are available and ready for use when needed.
- Reports, care plans etc. are filed in notes.
- Notes are available for coding after discharge of patient.
- All medical staff/midwifery staff sign results and ensure timely filing of results.

Job responsibilities- Answer the telephone from staff, patients and their friends & family; arrange appointments for patients and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Be the first point of contact from patients and staff members; answer the ward buzzer to allow people access to the wards, confirm individuals and reasons for visit.
- Have good filing skills; file documentation and patient notes in a timely manner.
- Use Patient Centre, Track it & HISS; good IT skills are beneficial.
- Must be able to demonstrate trust values and behaviours.
- Ability to carry out duties under instruction.
- Good standard of written and spoken English.
- Educated to secondary school level.
- Customer care training.
- Worked in hospital or care setting.
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety.
- Understanding of diversity.
- Aware of importance of confidentiality.
- Effective verbal and written communicator.
- Good telephone skills.
- Team player.
- 6 months experience as an administrator.
- Experience of HISS and patient centre.
- Well organised.

- Able to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
