Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Patient Engagement Lead to join the team at HMP Fosse Way, a Category C resettlement prison in Leicester. The Health in Justice team at Practice Plus Group provides NHS services in secure environments and aims to reduce reoffending by supporting prisoners to access health services and skills for release.

The role involves leading health promotion and engagement with patients, managing your own time and clinics, and being responsible for patient outreach. The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) with usual hours Monday–Friday 8am–4pm or 9am–5pm. The salary range is £28,485–£37,109 per annum, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Encourage prisoners to engage with the healthcare team, attend appointments, receive vaccinations, and complete tests to reduce non-attendance.
  • Be the first point of contact for complaints and escalate where necessary.
  • Run patient focus groups to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
  • Discuss complaints and feedback with patients on a 1-1 basis.
  • Work with patients across all pathways—primary care, mental health, and substance misuse.
  • Champion health promotion by liaising with prisoners and the wider healthcare team.
  • Listen to patient feedback and concerns and address where necessary while seeking solutions.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Excellent communication skills; this role involves speaking with a wide range of patients and healthcare staff.
  • Any clinical knowledge would be a bonus.
  • Ideally experience within a prison or secure setting.
  • Excellent time management and strong organisational skills.
  • Any experience with complaints handling would be a bonus.
  • Candidates are required to have the legal right to work in the UK; due to the nature of the role, offers will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Benefits
  • Company pension scheme.
  • 25 days annual leave rising to 28 days per year plus public bank holidays.
  • 24/7 employee assistance helpline and financial assistance when needed.
