Are you an experienced and ambitious engineering professional looking to take the next step in your career? Our Client is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager to support their Garage Engineering Manager in running a safe, efficient, and high-performing workshop.

In this key leadership role, you'll ensure fleet availability meets PVR requirements, manage workshop teams, and deliver excellence in maintenance, repair, and overhaul of vehicles—all while working within budget and maintaining core KPIs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as the on-site lead for depot security, health & safety, and safe working practices
  • Support the Engineering Manager in daily operational tasks
  • Lead and supervise workshop teams, ensuring vehicles and components are serviced, maintained, and repaired efficiently
  • Plan, allocate, and balance workloads to meet specifications and deadlines
  • Liaise with Charge hands to maintain on-road engineering performance
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, quality procedures, and environmental standards
About You
  • Strong engineering background with experience in maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy vehicles, equipment, or machinery
  • Ideally experience within the bus or HGV industry
  • Recognized engineering apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or degree/diploma in engineering/vehicle maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, leading by example (IOSH desirable)
  • Excellent leadership, team-building, and motivational skills
