SEND Behaviour Support Specialist – SEMH Schools & Alternative Provisions
Milk Education is working in partnership with a number of specialist SEMH schools and Alternative Provisions in the heart of Merton to recruit a dedicated and resilient SEND Behaviour Support Specialist.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build or progress their career within the SEND and behavioural support sector, gaining valuable experience in specialist education settings.
The RoleAs a SEND Behaviour Support Specialist, you will work closely with pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support. Many of the students you will support have SEMH needs and may have experienced challenges in mainstream education, so your role will be key in helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.
You will play a crucial role in promoting positive behaviour, building trust with students, and supporting them both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group behavioural support for students with SEMH needs
- Support pupils in managing emotions and developing self-regulation strategies
- Build positive, professional relationships with students, staff, and families
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, teachers, and SENCOs to implement behaviour support plans
- Support students within specialist SEMH schools and Alternative Provision settings
- Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviour interventions
- Experience working with young people in schools, alternative provisions, youth work, mentoring, or similar settings
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
- Resilient, patient, and empathetic personality
- Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model
- Team Teach training (desirable but not essential)
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND and SEMH needs
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
