Do you have the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to make a real difference for children with Communication and Interaction (C&I) needs?
We are seeking an exceptional Class Teacher to join our specialist C&I Unit. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is driven, reflective, and eager to shape high-quality provision for children with complex communication profiles.
You will lead learning for an assigned class within our C&I Unit, delivering a curriculum that is engaging, well-matched and ambitious for all pupils. You will work closely with a skilled team of support staff, external professionals and families to ensure every child thrives—academically, socially and emotionally.
We are looking for someone with experience across the four areas of need, particularly in Communication and Interaction. You should be confident in using approaches such as AAC, PECS, Attention Autism, Makaton, and other communication systems that support children with varying language and interaction needs.
Responsibilities- Can inspire and motivate children to achieve their full potential.
- Understands how to engage learners who struggle with attention or task focus, using creative and tailored approaches.
- Has a solid understanding of the primary curriculum and the progression of prior learning.
- Can adapt planning to meet the personalised needs of pupils with EHCPs.
- Knows how to deliver provision that supports pupils in achieving their EHCP outcomes.
- Is innovative, flexible and able to think outside the box to design high-quality learning experiences.
- Can deliver varied, practical and multisensory learning opportunities.
- Has strong experience using communication systems, including PECS, AAC and Makaton.
- Understands the key elements of successful teaching for children with C&I needs.
- Is fair, consistent and effective in behaviour management.
- Has high expectations of themselves and others.
- Can lead and support a team of staff, fostering excellent practice.
- Is committed to contributing to school improvement and wider school life.
- Values professional development and is eager to continue learning.
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with children, colleagues and families.
- Is enthusiastic, hands-on and ready to roll up their sleeves to help wherever needed.
