Utah Valley University Concurrent Enrollment is seeking a student-centered, proactive Academic Advisor to join our Advising and Outreach team.
Working under the direction of the Director of Advising and Outreach, this position plays a critical role in supporting both current and prospective concurrent enrollment students as they navigate their academic journey. - Advises current and prospective concurrent enrollment students in aspects of UVU Concurrent Enrollment, including admissions, registration, pathways, university processes, and campus engagement. Counsels students in the development of educational plans, career and major exploration, and course selections that align with student goals. Interprets academic test scores and assists students with appropriate course placement. Counsels students who are in academic difficulty and helps facilitate progress.
Documents and maintains student advising records. Consults with faculty and staff to document program changes. Ensures students receive up-to-date and accurate information concerning changes, assessment guidelines, course and instructor information, transfer guidelines, scholarships, and transition information. - Advisors work with students, parents, and high school partners to promote concurrent enrollment participation. Partners with CTE to promote the exploration of pathways and GE certification. Uses predictive analytics, approved technology, and proactive outreach with students, parents, and relevant high school partners to improve outcomes for students. Provides data and messaging to internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of relevant experience or any combination of education and experience totaling 5 years.
Preferred QualificationsSpanish-speaking, not required, but preferred.
Knowledge- Knowledge of secondary and post-secondary advising to aid students in the transition to higher education.
- Knowledge of contemporary advising theories and processes.
- Knowledge of high school, two-year college, and traditional four-year college graduation requirements.
- Skill in academic counseling.
- Skill in interpersonal communication.
- Skill in student retention and graduation strategies.
- Skill in data tracking and interpretation.
- Skill in record-keeping.
- Skill in Microsoft Office and other specialized computer software.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners/stakeholders.
- Ability to conduct interpersonal communication.
- Ability to conduct public speaking/presentations.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow projects/assignments through to completion in a timely manner.
