Job Description

Summary:

Perform mechanical repairs on commercial vehicles in Truck Shop, using tools, knowledge, teamwork, training, and problem-solving skills. Present to the customer a professional self-image and company image through excellent service, safe operation, and timeliness. Maintain working area and equipment in compliance with Company guidelines. Perform necessary documentation in effect procedures, and demonstrate competency, professionalism, dependability, safety, and quality assurance. Be safe and enjoy your job!

Responsibilities
  • Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret the results to offer suitable solutions.
  • Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
  • Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts.
  • Complete oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks.
  • Welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Swap clutches, perform hydraulic work, fix lights, diagnose and troubleshoot engine codes, exterior engine work.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace issues relating to DEF systems, fuel systems, and air systems.

  • Maintain personal appearance and uniforms in compliance with established Company standards.

  • Wear clean uniforms, belt, boots, and shirt tucked in. Look professional.

  • Be consistently at work and on time; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrive at meetings and appointments on time.
  • Follow instructions, respond to management, take responsibility for actions, and keep commitments to the company.
  • Arrive at work on time daily, ready for duty when shift starts.

  • Attend employee meetings as requested for job and safety information.
  • Conduct field visits and provide roadside service in emergencies or sudden breakdowns.
  • Assist in training new employees when requested, communicating properly all techniques and methods.
  • Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles; ensure organized documentation in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and preventative maintenance.
Safety
  • Observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
  • Execute repairs to ensure safe functionality in accordance with operating instructions.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment and take all safety precautions in day-to-day operations.
  • Test engine, safety, and combustion control standards as required by state vehicle requirements.
  • Utilize shop equipment, tools, and mechanical devices in compliance with operating instructions and Company procedures, with a high emphasis on safety.
  • Immediately report near misses, accidents, or unsafe situations to supervisor with clear communication and urgency.
  • Perform repairs and operation of vehicles, mechanics, and shop equipment with situational awareness, using three points of contact and appropriate PPE.
Quality Assurance
  • Set and achieve challenging goals; demonstrate persistence and measure performance against standards of excellence.
  • Use time efficiently; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; apply feedback to improve performance; monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize work; meet productivity standards and complete work in a timely manner; adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance and ensure complete service; identify problems visually or with diagnostic equipment and execute solutions in a timely, high-quality manner.
