Loudoun Country Day School (LCDS) is looking for an enthusiastic, talented educator to join our team as a Learning Specialist in Preschool-2nd grade for the  Academic year.

This is a full-time position and eligible for benefits. The individual hired will work five full days per week. They will also attend teacher workdays and meetings, and assume various duties commensurate with those of other LCDS specialty area teachers.

Mission Alignment: In support of our mission to inspire students to become lifelong learners who think critically and creatively and lead with courage, compassion, and character, the PS–2 Learning Specialist provides targeted literacy instruction and supports the academic and developmental growth of young learners.

Position Summary: The PS–2 Learning Specialist delivers research-based reading, spelling, and writing instruction for students in kindergarten through second grade. The Learning Specialist also designs and implements individualized intervention plans and collaborates closely with educators and families in preschool through second grade to support diverse learners.

Responsibilities
  • Working with students both individually and in small groups through pull-out and push-in programming, serving as a resource to both students and classroom teachers
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers and the division director to help identify and support students with mild learning disabilities and those struggling with the academic demands of the program
  • Developing and implementing individualized reading intervention plans
  • Developing Learning Paths for students who receive accommodations
  • Collaborating with the admissions team and the division director
  • Willingness to seek professional development opportunities and be a supportive colleague who demonstrates a growth-mindset and views themself as a life-long learner
Other Duties
  • Supervising students during a lunch and/or recess duty
  • Occasionally attending evening events, including Back-to-School Night (September), Preview Night (January), and other events as needed
  • Coordinating and helping to facilitate annual screenings, evaluations, and therapy with therapists in the fields of Occupational Therapy and Speech/Language Therapy, and any other specialists as needed

The school is an independent, coeducational school in Leesburg, Virginia, educating about 365 students in preschool through 8th grade.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is required (advanced degree is preferred), preferably in Education
  • Multiple years of experience teaching students in the 3 to 8 age range
  • Knowledge of language-based learning disabilities, as well as ADHD and Autism (Level 1 support)
  • Experience administering literacy and developmental assessments and interpreting psycho educational evaluations
  • Experience providing explicit, systematic, cumulative, diagnostic, and multisensory literacy instruction that aligns with the Science of Reading body of research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as good organization and attention to detail
  • Comfort level using technology
