Summary

The Thrift Store Manager position has overall responsibility for the operation of the Thrift Store, including processing, pricing, displaying, and selling inventory; customer and donor relations; and the appearance of grounds and buildings. The manager also handles scheduling, transporting, and receipting of non‑cash gifts, maintains accurate sales records, sales tax reports, and other required reports, and is responsible for making deposits and preparing supporting documentation.

The role reports directly to the Supervisor of Thrift Stores and is not eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for meeting budgeted net profit each fiscal year.
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Thrift Store including:
    • Supervises all staff and volunteers, including community service staff.
    • Processes administrative matters, incoming revenue, bills for payment, personnel records (including performance evaluations), and advertising.
    • Maintains attractive and pleasing display and sales areas, rotating items as necessary.
    • Ensures all items are received, sorted, repaired, cleaned, priced, displayed, and sold appropriately.
    • Maintains a well‑organized and orderly shop and storage area.
    • Ensures building and grounds are maintained attractively, including clean bathrooms.
    • Ensures assigned vehicles are maintained in good working order, kept clean, presentable, and logged.
  • Must have working knowledge of all Thrift Store positions to provide adequate coverage in the absence of employees.
  • Establishes store hours and staffing patterns to attract maximum customers.
  • Creates and maintains excellent customer relations and public relations.
  • Responsible for scheduling and picking up non‑cash gifts, preparing non‑cash receipts, and following all non‑cash receipting procedures.
  • Represents the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches and Sheriffs Ranches Enterprises positively to donors, customers, and the public, ensuring employees and volunteers provide exceptional service.

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for two assigned store locations.
  • Supervise employees across multiple locations, including coaching, performance management, and accountability measures.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of organizational policies, procedures, financial controls, and merchandising standards.
  • Coordinate staffing coverage and operational needs between locations.
  • Travel between assigned worksites as necessary.
  • Adjust daily priorities and schedules based on operational demands.
  • Education and Experience Requirements

    A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in a retail management position is required. A bachelor’s degree in marketing or a business‑related field is preferred.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, and government regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and manuals; present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume; apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive instructions; deal with problems in varied situations.
  • Working knowledge of retail store operations.
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to perform long‑range planning, business planning, forecasting, evaluation, and analysis of business functions.
  • Personality to work and communicate with staff and the general public.
  • Maintains good personal public relations.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.
