Overview Position Summary
The Employee Health Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, and coordinating care for injured or ill employees using the nursing process. This role serves as a liaison to internal customers and collaborates with the third-party administrator for the organization’s self-funded Workers’ Compensation program. The position oversees exposure control and immunization programs, provides education and case management services, and ensures a service-oriented approach in all interactions.
The Employee Health Specialist also participates in continuous performance improvement initiatives and the corporate compliance program, while providing supervision to Employee Health staff as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Assesses and plans care and treatment for injured or ill employees utilizing the nursing process
.Serves as a liaison to customers and coordinates care with the third-party administrator for the self-funded Workers’ Compensation program.
Assumes ownership of the Exposure Control Plan and employee immunization programs
.Provides education, counseling, and case management services to employees.
Demonstrates a service-oriented approach in all interactions with employees, leadership, and external partners.
Participates in continuous performance improvement activities and supports the corporate compliance program
.Supervises Employee Health Nurses, Employee Health Associates, and other staff as indicated.
Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Associate’s degree required
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Registered Nurse (RN)
Active license to practice nursing in the State of Florida
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) certification preferred
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience
More than four (4) years of Occupational Health (OH) experience preferred
Demonstrated competency in the nursing process and nursing techniques
Ability to adapt quickly to change and make sound decisions under conditions of ambiguity
Strong decision-making and critical-thinking skills
Proactive approach to professional development and job-related training
Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of care
