JOB SUMMARY

Beacon College offers summer programming events, College Edge and Summer for Success, which provide students who learn differently with the skills, confidence, and preparation needed to successfully transition to college. During these programs, students build self-awareness, problem-solving skills, and strategies to navigate college life successfully through integrated academic, residential, and social programming.

The Summer Programs Health Coordinator oversees the physical health and medical well-being of students across both summer programs. This role provides direct student care, manages routine and complex medical needs, and leads medical response efforts in both minor health concerns and emergency situations. The Health Coordinator is a key member of the student intervention team and partners closely with program leadership, families, and healthcare providers to ensure student safety, continuity of care, and regulatory compliance throughout the program term.

DUTIES

AND TASKS
  • Oversee the physical health and wellness of all students participating in summer programs;
  • Provide direct student care, including assessment, triage, and management of acute and chronic medical needs;
  • Administer medications, including oral, topical, injectable, and other prescribed treatments, in accordance with licensure, physician orders, and state and federal regulations;
  • Supervise and support the Medical Team and other health staff members as assigned;
  • Manage all aspects of medication administration, storage, documentation, and compliance;
  • Serve as the lead medical responder and interventionist for student health-related concerns and emergencies;
  • Provide medical coverage for off-campus activities, weekend excursions, and field trips, including travel and extended hours as required;
  • Participate in evening and overnight on-call medical coverage as assigned;
  • Collaborate with the summer program leadership team on student interventions and parent/guardian communication related to health and medical needs;
  • Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings, planning sessions, and trainings, including virtual pre-program onboarding;
  • Participate in and present during mandatory staff training;
  • Participate in Orientation Day activities, including welcoming students and families and communicating health-related policies and procedures;
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all program policies, expectations, and emergency response procedures;
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and all applicable federal, state, local, industry, and institution policies, rules, laws, and regulations;
  • Document student health encounters, medication administration, and wellness trends daily, or as directed, to support individualized care and program evaluation; and
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to support the overall success and integrity of college offered summer programs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Physician Assistant (PA), or other credentialed healthcare professional authorized/certified to administer medications and injections in the state of Florida required;
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of clinical experience working with adolescents or young adults required, preferably in residential, school-based, camp, or behavioral health settings;
  • Experience managing medication administration, including injectable medications such as insulin, biologics, or other prescribed treatments;
  • Familiarity and commitment to compliance according to HIPAA, FERPA and all other applicable federal, state, local, and industry rules, laws, and regulations;
  • Experience supporting neurodiverse populations, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, and co-occurring medical conditions; and
