Overview
This is a temporary assignment without benefits. Minimum of 30 hours per week and up to 40 hours as needed. The purpose of the class is to provide responsible accounting functions in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. The class is responsible for accounting, disbursement, maintenance, review, interpretation, analysis and reconciliation of accounts within assigned area of responsibility. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Performs accounting functions in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and requirements for assigned accounts.
- Reconciles all funds and accounts for assigned areas of responsibility; researches discrepancies, collects information, and reports findings.
- Posts payments, journal and ledger entries as assigned.
- Monitors financial and management systems such as cash receipts, utility billing, asset utilization and work order control systems for efficiency and accuracy; may conduct physical inventories of assets.
- Prepares required financial reports such as grants, statistical information, capital projects drawdown schedules and other.
- Assists with budget preparation which includes revenue projections and capital projects.
- Prepares audit documents, performs periodic or special audits.
- Assists with preparation of the City Annual Financial Report. (CAFR).
- Performs data entry of all financial activities for assigned accounts and funds; verifies and reconciles accuracy of data entered.
- Attends staff or project meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills.
- Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.
- Requires an associate’s degree with emphasis in accounting. A comparable amount of training, education and experience may be substituted for associate’s degree requirement. Requires two years or more of work experience in accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for work experience requirement.
- Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
