Job DescriptionNote: The following duties describe the typical responsibilities and are not all-inclusive. The kennel tech is responsible for the care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of our patients in the hospital and boarding facility. This role involves cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, medicating patients, restocking hospital supplies, assisting with post-operative patients, and supporting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams.
Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues that arise is required. Training may be provided to clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
- Care for patients in hospital and boarding facility
- Clean, feed, medicate, bathe, walk dogs, and perform related tasks
- Restock hospital supplies and assist with post-operative care
- Assist doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams
- Maintain accurate medication, diet, appetite, behavior, and incident records
- May be trained to clean and sterilize surgical instruments
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods
- Proper methods of animal restraint
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
- Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor (e.g., large dogs, lifting bags of litter or pet foods)
- Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared, and injured animals
- Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job
