The Float Team/PRN position is perfect for those who can work flexible hours. This position guarantees 16 hours per week and first pick of weekly open shifts. It allows shadowing in all of our homes to help staff become highly skilled, adaptable and well rounded, and to find client/staff personality matches. Ideally, this would lead to permanent part-time or full-time hours in a preferred home(s).

What is this job all about?

The Behavior Support Technician is the bridge between people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their communities. You will encourage and mentor individuals by supporting them in maximizing their full potential. The BST role is involved in providing supports to all aspects of individuals life activities, including daily life skills such as cooking, cleaning, hygiene, medication administration, behavioral care, and community participation.

What will my day-to-day responsibilities look like?

A Behavior Support Technician is both a mentor and a coach. In this position you will be working hands on with our clients to provide guidance and suggestions to empower their independence.

  • Educating and assisting clients on skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, and other activities of daily living
  • Working with clients to learn and encourage coping skills to address challenging behaviors
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation and redirection to ensure client safety when necessary
  • Work with Behavior Analysis professionals to implement and follow recommended behavior support plans

What do I need to be successful in this position?

  • Be a minimum of eighteen years of age
  • Possess a diploma from an accredited High School or the equivalent
  • Be passionate about working with individuals with disabilities and increasing their independence; a sincere dedication to the mission and people served by The Arc of the Ozarks is crucial

Behavioral Support Technician – Definition

This is an entry level human services position providing supports to persons with disabilities in a residential setting to achieve the highest level of independent living. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The BST provides support to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or psychiatric/behavioral diagnoses and/or autism spectrum disorders.
