Our client, a UK-based digital consultancy, is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join their engineering practice. This role sits within multidisciplinary teams delivering user‑centred digital solutions that provide real value and are accessible to all users.
As a senior consultant, you will act as a technical subject matter expert, providing leadership in software engineering best practices, influencing technical direction, and supporting both clients and internal teams. This role is well suited to developers seeking continued growth at senior level, with clear progression opportunities.
Responsibilities- Act as a technical subject matter expert within delivery teams, ensuring user‑centred software solutions are developed in line with business requirements and engineering best practice.
- Collaborate closely with designers, analysts, and delivery colleagues to explore, design, and deliver solutions to complex client problems.
- Design, implement, and manage robust software development and deployment pipelines, proactively resolving issues and bottlenecks.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly, presenting prototypes, solutions, and delivery progress to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with team members and client stakeholders, addressing challenges collaboratively.
- Lead and contribute to technical decision‑making and delivery standards across projects.
- Support the recruitment, mentoring, and professional development of other engineers and consultants.
- Represent the engineering practice externally through knowledge sharing activities such as blogs, workshops, seminars, or conferences.
- Strong experience across the full software development lifecycle, delivering user‑centred digital solutions.
- Containerisation experience using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.
- Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.
- Strong experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments using approaches such as Scrum, Kanban, and Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
- Ability to design and build native and web applications across a range of scales and platform environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Cloud Formation, Terraform, ARM, or equivalents.
- Strong knowledge of public cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and Dev Ops practices.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling, including Jenkins, AWS Code Build, Azure Dev Ops, or Atlassian toolsets.
- Experience with Kotlin is highly desirable.
- Previous experience delivering projects within government or healthcare environments is highly desirable.
- Excellent written skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Confidence operating as a senior consultant, advising clients and influencing technical outcomes.
